A man has been charged with murder in relation to the disappearance of Sunshine Coast boy Daniel Morcombe.
The man, known as "person of interest seven" or P7, gave evidence earlier this year to an inquest into Daniel's disappearance.
Police said the 41-year-old had been charged with murder, deprivation of liberty, child stealing, indecent treatment of a child under 16, and interfering with a corpse. He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
P7, 41, who now lives in Perth, was living on the Sunshine Coast when Daniel disappeared.
This year, he addressed the inquest into Daniel's disappearance, telling the Brisbane Coroners Court he had nothing to do with the crime.
He also told the court that he had smoked marijuana before giving evidence, saying he'd smoked "three cones at 7am" that day.
Police tonight paid tribute to the dedication and tenacity of officers involved in the case, which is the biggest missing-person investigation in Queensland Police history.
Commissioner Bob Atkinson said Daniel's parents, Denise and Bruce Morcombe, had shown courage, patience and resolve in the years since Daniel's disappearance.
He also thanked the public for its "outstanding support" and regular and constant flow of information to police.
Mr Atkinson said despite the breakthrough, a significant amount of work still needed to be done, including searching for the remains.
